Why Hair Serums Are Essentials In Hair Care?

We have seen numerous ads that feature hair serums which can transform dull, dry hair into tresses into beautifully smooth, silky, and stunning locks. You can see them raving about the miraculous anti-frizz benefits of hair serums.

However, with our hectic schedules and fast-paced lifestyles, whatever helps us with instant results is considered a big relief.

What is a hair serum?

A hair serum is known as a silicone-based product that helps to coat the surface of your hair. Unlike hair oils, it doesn’t penetrate the hair cuticles or cause changes to the hair structure. It can help to enhance the curliness and smoothness of the hair.

Silicones do help the hair to strengthen and brightens it reducing the hair loss. Serums contain a lower pH level which can help to minimize hair damage. Dimenthicone and polysiloxane, the product used in most hair care items like serums, are known++ to protect the hair shaft and glue cuticle filers to stop the heat damage.

There are numerous types and even brands of hair serums available in the market. Before you pick anyone, it’s very important for you to understand the mechanism of a hair serum.

What does a hair serum do?

When you apply a good hair serum, it helps you to your hair from getting tangled, making it softer, frizz-free, and shinier. The serum also protects your hair against sun exposure, pollutants like dust and grime.

Benefits of using hair serums

A serum helps your hair by making it shinier and healthier, even reducing the tangles.

As the serum reflects light, it helps in making the hair look lustrous and healthier protecting it from the dust and humidity.

The low acidity in the serum helps in preventing swelling and holds the hair fibers together.

Hair serums also help protect your air from the damaging effects of the sun, pollution, and other harmful effects.

Hair serums also help your hair to moisturize which has been damaged from color.

How to use a hair serum

1. Find the perfect product for your hair type

Like any other grooming product, every brand uses various ingredients that might benefit certain types of hair and don’t affect much for other types.

So, it is very important to find the perfect product that suits you best. You must be aware of all the ingredients used. It also means experimenting with a few items before finding the right one.

2. Before applying, wash your hair thoroughly

After applying Indulekha oil on your hair, shampoo it properly. It would be best if you remembered that hair serum must be applied only after shampoo. Unlike hair mousse or hair sprays, hair serums are considered a source of nourishment for the hair, because it help to style or disentangle. The purpose of a serum is to protect the hair against dust and grime. So, if you apply it on unwashed hair, it will defeat the purpose.

If you’re trying out hair serum for the first time, try to use the one which comes with a compatible shampoo and conditioner in the same range.

3. How to apply hair serum

Depending on your hair's length and density, you can take two to six drops of the hair serum in your palm and rub it properly, mixing them well.

Hair serums are best when applied on just-washed hair, so make sure your hair is towel-dried or at least slightly damp.

Try to flip your hair forward and start applying the serum going up from your hair's tips. Try to massage the tips, as the serum works well on the split ends. Flip the hair back, taking two to four more drops of the serum, massaging well into the scalp.

When done, take a few more drops of the serum and apply it all over the hair for efficient application.
